London will never cease to amaze me, especially when it’s about discovering new random and fantastic places that came out from nowhere.
I recently shared my crush on Hackney during a stroll in East London, and I am now taking you back to south london, where I live. South London is full of hidden gems and this is one of them. Probably the cutest secret little garden of the area, I named Metro Clapham.
The south Londoners might tell you it doesn’t look like the kind of place you would like to get into… And that’s exactly what I thought before. Actually I must have walked past it hundreds of time as it is located right in front of Clapham Common tube station exit, without even noticing it, until I started to look for a special and cute place for my birthday.
I chose to trust the Internet that was showing me lovely pictures of the place, and I was right. Metro Clapham has the cutest secret terrace ever! It is spacious, very cute, quiet, nicely decorated, chilled out, pretty, relax and even better when the sun goes down and when the little lights are on… It has something magical and very special.
When you walk in, you have to go through the bar at the entrance, which is rather dark. You wouldn’t believe there is the most alive and pretty secret garden at the back, which is probably a good thing as the surprise is even bigger!
But first, you’ll have to go through a few other rooms. The cute veranda, with white bricks on the walls, mirrors that offer a spacious impression, lights all over and a window on the ceiling to enjoy the light as much as possible, then you go through an outdoor room covered by a sort of big tent, decorated with little flags here and there for a festive dimension, and finally you reach one of the several gardens. You really feel like in a secret paradise, far away from London. The tube entrance is just a few meters away but you barely remember you took it to come here. And you just want to forget about that busy life with tubes and buses and work and everything. Time is for relaxation.
Decoration has clearly been made with care. The whole place is very charismatic during the day, and even more at night with the little lights.
With the gorgeous summer we’re having at the moment, it is the perfect place to enjoy the sun until the last minute in a festive and happy atmosphere.
Food is good, even though it’s not the best food I have ever had, and to be honest, you don’t go to that place for a gastronomic experience but more for the special atmosphere which is quite unique. Even though there are lots of secret garden and romantic places in London, I have never seen such a cute and quiet one, at an affordable price.
Service is excellent, people are very welcoming, smiling and professional, especially the manager who has been so kind to us everytime I went there.
I am so happy I found that little secret terrace, and I can’t wait to go back!
